Distributed Energy Consulting

Decide what the energy investment is for before you choose the equipment.

Distributed energy means generation, storage and controllable loads located at your facility, such as solar PV, batteries, thermal storage, microgrids and EV charging, rather than power supplied only from the grid. Each of those technologies does a different job, and the most common mistake is buying one before deciding whether the goal is peak management, backup or lower annual energy use. Green Summit helps owners, developers and institutions evaluate those options and resilience strategies around the facility's load and operating needs, then connects them with costs, tariffs, incentives and a plan to verify performance. We are a licensed engineering firm with in-house tax professionals, founded in 2014, and our job is a practical, verifiable project, not a technology sale.

Who this is for

Developers, owners, contractors, housing providers, public institutions, Tribal Nations, program administrators and technology companies weighing on-site energy options against a real facility's needs.

What we do

  • Feasibility and load analysis. We review utility bills, interval data, critical loads, available space and the electrification or growth you anticipate.
  • System and financial comparison. We evaluate right-sized configurations, demand management, backup objectives, capital cost, operating assumptions and compatible incentives side by side.
  • Implementation support. We coordinate basis-of-design requirements, vendor proposals, utility interfaces, commissioning and measurement and verification within a defined advisory scope.

Our process

  1. Assess the loads, the risks and the decisions the project must address.
  2. Compare scenarios, technical and financial, rather than relying on a vendor quote alone.
  3. Define the path. We set out the procurement, delivery and verification requirements for the option you choose.

Benefits

  • More useful comparisons among competing energy options.
  • A clear distinction between peak management, backup and annual energy goals, so the system is judged against the job it was bought for.
  • A coordinated handoff from feasibility to verification, with the same assumptions carried through.

Why Green Summit

Our distributed-energy work combines building-energy modeling, engineering, solar field experience, incentive strategy and affordable-housing knowledge in one team. Green Summit is a licensed engineering firm with in-house tax professionals, founded in 2014 as a consulting partner delivering end-to-end compliance solutions in building performance and incentives. Our role is to help you select a practical and verifiable project, never to assume every site needs the same technology, and because the same firm inspects installed solar and performs measurement and verification, the assumptions in the feasibility study are the ones we later check in the field.

We also separate the decision from the sale. A vendor quote describes one system; our comparison describes the alternatives, including doing less, so the option you choose is measured against the others rather than against nothing.

Frequently asked questions

What is distributed energy?

Distributed energy is generation, storage and controllable load located at or near the facility it serves, rather than supplied only from the utility grid. For a building that typically means solar PV, electrical or thermal storage, a microgrid configuration, EV charging and the controls that coordinate them. Each plays a different operating role, which is why the evaluation starts with the facility's loads and objectives rather than with a technology.

What is included in distributed energy consulting?

The scope can evaluate solar PV, electrical and thermal storage, microgrids, EV charging and controls around the facility's loads and objectives. We assess each option for its operating role, costs, constraints and verification needs, and we never assume it fits every building.

Does storage always reduce energy consumption?

No. Storage primarily changes when energy is used or supplies defined backup needs, and losses and operating strategy matter. We compare energy, demand costs, resilience and emissions separately so each benefit is counted once and in the right column.

Can you help evaluate an installer's proposal?

Yes. We review the assumptions, sizing, scope, exclusions, controls and verification requirements against your objectives. That review never replaces the installer's design or warranty responsibilities; it gives you an independent reading of what the proposal will and will not do.

Will a microgrid or battery provide whole-building backup?

Only if the system is designed and approved for that function. Critical loads, power and energy capacity, controls, islanding and safety requirements all have to be evaluated, and we make the intended backup function explicit before anyone sizes equipment.

Can distributed energy fit into a decarbonization or financing plan?

Yes. We compare the options within the building's carbon and capital roadmap, with incentive and C-PACE screening where the property and program allow. Eligibility is checked against the rules as they stand, never assumed from the technology.
