EV Charging & Electrification Planning
Plan the load, the infrastructure and the operating model as one decision.
Electric vehicle charging is a new electrical load, and like every load it is judged by how much power it draws and when: a bank of chargers that peaks alongside the building's other loads can raise demand charges, not only the energy bill. Electrification planning evaluates that load, the site's capacity to serve it and the operating model that will govern it before any equipment is selected. Green Summit helps property and facility teams evaluate EV charging and other new electrical loads, connecting demand, site capacity, operating arrangements and project economics with the technical work required to proceed. We are a licensed engineering firm founded in 2014, and we treat electrical engineering, accessibility, installation and utility approval as separate, accountable project roles.

Who this is for
Developers, owners, housing providers, Tribal Nations, program administrators and technology companies adding charging or other new electrical loads to a property that was not built for them.
What we do
- Assess the load. We evaluate expected use, charging needs, existing loads and the expansion you may need later, so the first phase does not box in the second.
- Review capacity and constraints. We examine concept capacity, load-management options, utility interfaces and site constraints with the responsible designers.
- Compare the implementation. We weigh implementation phases, cost assumptions, incentives and procurement requirements side by side.
Our process
- Define the users. We establish who will charge, which vehicles, the use patterns and your ownership goals.
- Evaluate the options. We work through load and infrastructure options with the project team, including what each phase requires of the existing service.
- Prepare the phased scope. You receive a phased scope and coordinated next steps for design and procurement, with the questions for the utility and the electrical engineer already framed.
Benefits
- A clearer basis for charger quantity and capacity, phase by phase.
- Earlier visibility of utility and service-upgrade questions, while there is still time to answer them.
- Better alignment between infrastructure, operating costs and future growth.
Why Green Summit
We evaluate charging as part of the building's distributed-energy and operating strategy, not as a stand-alone purchase, so the charging load is planned alongside storage, on-site generation and the building's other electrical needs. Green Summit is a licensed engineering firm founded in 2014 and a consulting partner delivering end-to-end compliance solutions in building performance; our findings are engineered substantiation, not estimates, and the record is built to be audit-ready from day one.
Electrical engineering, accessibility, installation and utility approval are established as separate, accountable project roles. Our planning gives each of those parties a defined starting point and an owner who already knows what the load is for.
Frequently asked questions
What is EV charging and electrification planning?
It is the evaluation of EV charging and other new electrical loads before equipment is selected: how much power they will draw and when, whether the site and service can carry them, what load management and phasing can do, and how the operating model, costs and incentives fit together. The result is a phased scope the design and procurement teams can act on, not a charger order.
Can charging increase demand charges?
It can, depending on the tariff, the charging power and whether charging coincides with the building's other loads. We evaluate your facility's actual billing structure and load profile rather than a generic assumption, so the operating cost is understood before the chargers are chosen. Managed charging, which limits charging power or shifts it away from the building's peak, is one of the load-management options we evaluate for exactly that reason.
Can managed charging avoid a service upgrade?
It may help in some cases, but capacity, operating requirements, controls and utility approval all have to be assessed. Avoiding an upgrade is a scenario we evaluate, never a promise we make.
Can storage be considered with EV charging?
Yes. The combined analysis compares capital cost, available capacity, dispatch and expected use against the other options, so a battery is added because it does a defined job for the charging load, not because it was in the same proposal.
Who selects the charging network and payment model?
You do; it is an operating decision for the owner. We help compare the technical requirements and the assumptions in each proposal, and because the payment model shapes both the equipment and the operating cost, we ask about it early. Network subscriptions, tariffs and payment obligations need their own review before you sign.
Does the scope include final electrical design?
Only when your engagement expressly includes it and assigns it to suitably licensed professionals. Feasibility and advisory support never automatically include stamped design or installation, and we say where our work ends and the engineer of record's begins.
