MEP, HVAC & Hot-Water Coordination

Make the systems work with the building, not just on paper.

An efficient piece of equipment is only one part of a working solution. Loads, distribution, controls, hot-water demand and the building envelope act on one another: tighten the envelope and the load drops; change the load and the equipment, the airflow and the duct design change with it. When those decisions are made by different people at different times, the building inherits the mismatches. Green Summit provides the technical coordination and analysis that bring mechanical, electrical and plumbing information together where it affects energy performance, retrofit decisions and certification requirements, within a clearly defined professional scope.

Who this is for

Owners, developers, builders and design teams, housing authorities, public institutions, utility programs and manufacturers with buildings whose mechanical, hot-water and electrical decisions have to work together.

What we do

  • Review system configurations. We compare HVAC and domestic hot-water options against the building's needs and operating assumptions, not against the catalog.
  • Evaluate sizing information. We review load and proposed equipment-capacity information within the engineering scope the engagement authorizes.
  • Coordinate design inputs. We connect equipment submittals, drawings and system interfaces with the energy model and the program requirements the project carries.
  • Support retrofit decisions. We identify the constraints, the enabling work and the technical questions the design team has to resolve before equipment is ordered.

Our process

  1. Define the technical question and the responsible design professionals. We settle what has to be decided and who holds design responsibility for it.
  2. Review the building, load, equipment and operating information. We look at the systems as a set, not as separate submittals.
  3. Present findings and coordinate the next step, whether that is a design decision, a revised submittal or a verification test.

What you receive

Technical review comments, system-comparison analysis and coordination recommendations, written so the responsible designer and contractor can act on them. Full design, stamped drawings, specialist testing and engineer-of-record responsibilities are separate services unless the engagement expressly includes them.

Benefits

  • Earlier identification of conflicts between loads, equipment, distribution and hot-water assumptions.
  • A cleaner technical handoff to the design and installation professionals responsible for the work.
  • Equipment decisions that account for the envelope, the controls and the hot-water demand they will serve.

Why Green Summit

Green Summit is a consulting partner delivering end-to-end compliance solutions in building performance, specialty tax incentives and advisory services. Founded in 2014 as a licensed engineering firm, we bring engineers, modelers and field professionals to the same question, so the analysis stays connected to installed conditions and to the decision the owner has to make.

The work stands on its own or feeds a coordinated assessment, implementation and verification scope. When a system question also touches an energy model, a certification or an incentive, the same team carries the record across, and it is built to be audit-ready from day one.

Frequently asked questions

What is MEP coordination?

Mechanical, electrical and plumbing coordination is the work of making a building's systems agree with one another and with the building: the heating and cooling loads, the equipment that serves them, the distribution that delivers the air or water, the controls that run it and the hot-water demand the occupants create. On this page it means technical analysis and design coordination in support of the responsible design professionals. It is not the full MEP design itself.

Do you provide full MEP design?

Our standard scope is technical analysis and design coordination. Any formal design role must be expressly agreed in writing and properly licensed for the project, and we tell you at the outset which role we hold.

Can you review ventilation and humidity concerns?

Yes, within a defined calculation, review or testing scope. We also tell you when a specialist investigation or additional measurements are needed, rather than stretching a review past what it can support.

Can you support equipment replacements?

Yes. Before you select, we evaluate the existing conditions, the operating needs, the alternatives and how the replacement interacts with other improvements planned for the building.

Can you perform Manual J, S and D calculations?

Yes, as connected residential design services: heating and cooling loads, equipment selection and duct design. We establish the building type, the system and the documentation the project needs before we begin.

How do your comments reach the construction team?

Each review comment names the assumption or interface at issue and the decision it needs. The responsible designer and contractor resolve the item and incorporate the change through the project's controlled drawing and submittal process, so the drawings of record stay authoritative.
