Solar & Battery Feasibility

Start with the load, not the equipment quote.

The best solar and storage system is not necessarily the largest one. The right size depends on when your building uses energy, which loads actually matter, what the site can accommodate and how new equipment will interact with the systems already running. Green Summit helps owners evaluate photovoltaic and battery-storage opportunities in relation to building demand, site conditions, project economics and operating priorities, before a capital commitment and before a vendor's quote becomes the plan. We are a licensed engineering firm with in-house tax professionals, founded in 2014, so the incentive question is answered by people who read both the tariff and the program rules.

Who this is for

Developers, owners, housing providers, Tribal Nations, program administrators and technology companies weighing solar or storage against the way a building actually uses energy.

What we do

  • Establish objectives and loads. We review your utility information, operating patterns and energy or resilience priorities before anyone talks about panels.
  • Evaluate site and system options. We assess production assumptions, the role storage would play and the building-system interfaces the equipment would touch.
  • Coordinate technical requirements. We support design discussions and review equipment and interconnection-related information within the study's scope.
  • Compare practical pathways. We weigh project costs, operating assumptions, implementation dependencies and the incentives that may apply to the project.

Our process

  1. Define the goals and the data. We start with what you want the system to do and the energy data you can provide.
  2. Evaluate configurations and integration. We compare selected configurations and the integration requirements each one carries.
  3. Identify what comes next. We name the design, incentive or verification tasks that follow the decision.

What you receive

A feasibility or system-comparison analysis with its assumptions, constraints and recommended next steps stated plainly. Formal design, installation, utility approval and financing are separate unless your engagement expressly includes them.

Benefits

  • A project-specific comparison of solar and storage options before you commit capital.
  • Visible load, tariff, cost and operating assumptions behind every recommendation.
  • A recommendation you can hand to a designer, an installer or a lender without translating it first.

Why Green Summit

Green Summit is a licensed engineering firm with in-house tax professionals, founded in 2014 as a consulting partner delivering end-to-end compliance solutions in building performance and incentives. Our engineers, modelers and field professionals connect the analysis to installed conditions and to the decision the owner needs to make, and the same firm can later inspect the installed array and verify its performance. A feasibility study can stand alone or feed a coordinated assessment, implementation and verification engagement, and its assumptions are documented so they can be checked when the system is running.

We also keep the roles clear. Formal design, installation, utility approval and financing sit with the parties responsible for them, and we write the study so each of those parties can pick it up and see exactly which assumptions it rests on.

Frequently asked questions

What is a solar and battery feasibility study?

A feasibility study evaluates whether photovoltaic generation, battery storage or both fit a specific building, and at what size. It starts from the building's demand and operating patterns, the site's constraints and the owner's energy or resilience priorities, then compares practical configurations on cost, operating assumptions, implementation dependencies and potentially relevant incentives. The result is a comparison you can act on, not a design or an installation.

Does a battery automatically provide whole-building backup?

No. Backup capability depends on the design, the controls, the loads the system is built to support, its capacity and the operating conditions. The intended use has to be defined before the battery is sized, and we define it with you.

Can you coordinate with our installer?

Yes. We support technical review and design coordination while keeping the installer's and the engineer-of-record's responsibilities explicit. Our study informs their work; it does not replace it.

Will the system qualify for incentives?

We review the programs that may apply, but system type alone never establishes eligibility. Dates, ownership and the program's current requirements all have to be checked, and our in-house tax professionals check them against the rules as they stand rather than as a brochure describes them.

How do you compare storage with efficiency improvements?

We evaluate load shape, peak-demand costs, operating schedules, capital costs and the resilience function you intend. Reducing the load first can change the right system size and make the investment comparison more useful, so efficiency is on the table before storage is sized.

Can thermal storage be included?

Yes, where the building's heating or cooling demand makes it relevant. Thermal storage shifts thermal loads, so we evaluate it alongside electrical batteries and PV rather than treating the three as equivalent.

Let's size the system around the way your building actually runs.

Tell us the building type and location, what you want solar or storage to accomplish and whether you can share utility data.
