Green Building Consulting & Certification Strategy
Pick the pathway that fits the commitment. Then plan the work that earns it.
Code compliance, green-building certification and energy incentives are three different questions, and each has its own reviewer, its own evidence and its own deadline. Green Summit helps owners, developers and construction teams choose the certification pathway that fits the building, its financing commitments and its ownership objectives, then turn that choice into an organized technical and verification plan. We identify the program and pathway, assign design, contractor and verification responsibilities and connect every requirement to the design and construction schedule. As a licensed engineering firm and RESNET Rating Provider, we bring energy modeling, field verification and incentive awareness to the same table; the certifying body for each program makes the certification decision.

Who this is for
Owners, developers and construction teams with a green-building goal or a financing commitment to meet, and the public institutions, Tribal housing programs, raters and manufacturers who share that work.
What we do
- Choose the pathway. We compare ENERGY STAR, NGBS, FGBC, LEED, Phius, Enterprise Green Communities, Indoor AirPlus and DOE Efficient New Homes against the building, its financing commitments and your ownership objectives, and we recommend the program and pathway that fit.
- Coordinate the technical work. We align energy modeling, building systems, qualified verification roles and construction evidence with the requirements of the program you chose, so each party knows what to deliver and when.
- Connect performance and capital. We bring Decarbonization Consulting and C-PACE Advisory & Financing Support into the same conversation where they fit, and we never assume that certification by itself establishes financing eligibility.
- Carry requirements through closeout. We track responsibilities, approved changes, submissions and supporting records with the design and construction team, from the first submittal to the final certificate.
Our process
- Start with the commitment. We identify the owner goal, the financing requirement, the building type and the program version before anyone picks a label.
- Build the roadmap. We assign design, contractor and verification responsibilities and schedule the critical milestones, including the inspections that must happen before work is concealed.
- Coordinate the evidence. We review drawings, field observations, tests and changes as the project progresses, so the record grows with the building.
- Support certification closeout. We resolve open items and assemble the records the certification process requires, then hand a complete package to the certifying body.
Benefits
- One coordinated view of requirements across the whole project team, from the owner's commitment to the verifier's checklist.
- Inspections and tests planned early, before insulation, drywall and finishes conceal the work they need to see.
- A clear line between code compliance, certification and incentives, so each is documented for the reviewer who will actually judge it.
- A certification roadmap, a milestone schedule and an organized closeout record you can hand to lenders, agencies and the certifying body.
Why Green Summit
Green Summit is a consulting partner delivering end-to-end compliance solutions in building performance, specialty incentives and advisory services. Founded in 2014, we are a licensed engineering firm and RESNET Rating Provider No. 1998-221, so energy modeling, field verification and incentive awareness sit in the same team that coordinates your certification. We evaluate each program on its own terms and staff it with properly qualified professionals; one credential or one passing test never establishes compliance with every program.
Certification is awarded under each program's own rules, not by your consultant. For every engagement we identify the responsible verifier, the certifying agent and any independence requirement the program imposes, and we tell you where our role ends and theirs begins. One naming note: DOE Efficient New Homes was formerly called Zero Energy Ready Home.
Frequently asked questions
What is a green-building certification strategy?
It is the plan that turns a green-building goal into assigned work: which program and pathway the project will pursue, who on the design, contractor and verification side owns each requirement, and when each inspection, test and submission has to happen. Green Summit builds that plan from the owner goal, the financing requirement, the building type and the program version, then keeps it current as the design and construction change.
How do we choose among the certification programs?
Start with the financing or owner requirement, then the building type, project stage, location and operating objectives. We compare pathways such as ENERGY STAR, NGBS, FGBC, LEED, Phius, Enterprise Green Communities, Indoor AirPlus and DOE Efficient New Homes against those facts and show you what each would ask of the project.
Can you coordinate more than one certification?
Yes. Shared information collection and aligned inspections can reduce duplication when a project carries two commitments. Each program keeps its own eligibility, documentation and review requirements, so we define the combined scope program by program and never let one certification stand in for another.
Do you issue every certification directly?
No. The certification body and the qualified professionals it requires depend on the program. Our engagement defines the consulting, modeling, verification and coordination roles we perform, and we never assume authority from an unrelated credential.
Can you connect certification with carbon planning and financing?
Yes. Decarbonization Consulting and C-PACE Advisory & Financing Support are related planning services, and we evaluate whether they are relevant to your project. We never imply that certification automatically qualifies a project for financing or proves a zero-emissions result.
When should Green Summit join the project?
Before design decisions and contracts fix the pathway. Early coordination aligns responsibilities, budget, construction milestones and closeout evidence while every option is still open; a late start leaves gaps that paperwork alone cannot close.
Let's choose the pathway before the drawings do.
Tell us the building type and location, the project stage and any certification your lender, agency or owner requirement already names.
