FGBC Green Certification Support

Florida's own green-building standards, with the certifying agent's role made explicit.

The Florida Green Building Coalition certifies homes, developments and other building types under its own Florida-focused standards, and each FGBC standard has its own program, its own requirements and its own independent certifying-agent arrangement. That independence matters: the consultant who coordinates the work and the agent who certifies it are not automatically the same person, and a HERS credential does not cover the certifying-agent role. Florida developers, builders and housing organizations pursue FGBC for owner goals and, where a lender or housing program accepts it, to satisfy a financing requirement. Green Summit helps the owner and project team organize the requirements, documentation and verification arrangements for the standard that fits the building type and construction stage; FGBC reviews and awards the certification.

Who this is for

Florida developers, builders and design teams, and the affordable-housing and Tribal housing organizations building in the state, with an FGBC commitment on a home, a development or another building type.

What we do

  • Select the program that applies. We establish the building type, the project scope, the FGBC standard and the certification objective, because every FGBC standard follows its own process.
  • Coordinate requirements. We translate the relevant energy, water, site, material and resilience considerations into assigned project tasks with named owners.
  • Organize supporting evidence. We track drawings, specifications, photographs and the other records the standard requires as the project produces them, so nothing has to be reconstructed at submission.
  • Coordinate qualified verification. We establish the independent certifying-agent arrangement the rules require and support the submission and closeout process.

Our process

  1. Review the project. We identify the location, the use, the stage and the owner's requirements, including any lender or housing program that names FGBC.
  2. Establish responsibilities. We identify the FGBC program that applies and the qualified independent certification role, and we put both in writing.
  3. Track design and construction evidence. We coordinate with the project team and chase down missing information while it can still be produced.
  4. Support the final review. We assemble the documentation and respond to open technical items until FGBC's review is complete.

Benefits

  • A defined FGBC pathway for the actual project, not a generic green checklist.
  • Earlier planning for required evidence and verification, before finishes cover the work.
  • Coordination with energy modeling, code compliance and other certification commitments, so the same evidence serves each reviewer where the rules allow.
  • An organized submission record and a certifying-agent arrangement you can name before construction starts.

Why Green Summit

Green Summit brings engineering and building-performance support to the project while respecting FGBC's program-specific qualifications and independent verification requirements. Founded in 2014, we are a licensed engineering firm and RESNET Rating Provider No. 1998-221, headquartered in Cocoa Beach, Florida, and we make the certifying-agent role explicit rather than assuming a HERS or any other credential covers it.

Before an engagement begins, and before we publish any specific credential claim, we establish the FGBC standard that applies, the current agent qualifications and the independent arrangement the rules require. Certification is subject to FGBC review; our job is to make sure the project arrives at that review with its evidence complete.

Frequently asked questions

What is FGBC green certification?

It is certification by the Florida Green Building Coalition under one of its Florida-focused standards, chosen by building or development type. A project meets the standard's energy, water, site, material and resilience requirements, documents them and is certified through an independent certifying agent and FGBC's review. Green Summit coordinates the requirements, the evidence and the verification arrangements; FGBC decides.

Which FGBC certification applies?

The building or development type and the FGBC program you select determine the pathway. We review the current requirements and the project's intended use before we set the scope, because a standard written for one building type does not transfer to another.

Who performs the independent certification role?

The FGBC rules determine the certifying-agent arrangement and its independence. We establish that arrangement for your project rather than assuming all consulting and certification functions can sit with the same person or company.

Can you coordinate FGBC with NGBS or ENERGY STAR?

Yes, where the project carries more than one commitment. We identify the shared evidence and the separate requirements, so the team neither duplicates effort nor assumes one program automatically satisfies another. Each certification is still reviewed by its own program on its own terms.

When should the project team engage?

In early design, with a clear plan for construction-stage verification and closeout records. Late changes or concealed work can limit the evidence available to the certifying agent, and a photograph taken after the fact rarely shows what the standard needed to see.

Can FGBC support a financing or housing requirement?

Potentially, when the lender or housing program accepts the relevant certification and level. We establish that requirement and its deadline rather than treating certification as universal funding eligibility.
