NGBS Green Certification Support

A whole-building standard, verified at the stages that matter.

NGBS Green certification recognizes new-construction and renovation projects that meet the National Green Building Standard, and the standard reaches well beyond a single energy calculation. A project selects practices from the standard, and a verifier confirms them during construction and at completion, which means the selected program, the project type and the verification stages need to be understood early enough for design intent to be backed by real construction records. Developers, builders and affordable-housing teams pursue NGBS to meet owner goals and the financing or agency commitments written into their deals. Green Summit helps project teams coordinate NGBS requirements, verification and documentation from the desired certification to the final program review; the certification itself is issued through the NGBS Green process.

Who this is for

Developers, owners, builders and design teams with an NGBS commitment on a new-construction or renovation project, including affordable-housing and Tribal housing organizations.

What we do

  • Plan the certification approach. We review the certification you want, the standard that applies and the project's characteristics, and we set the scope around that combination.
  • Coordinate project requirements. We help the team understand the selected practices and the documentation each party must provide, so nobody discovers a requirement after the wall is closed.
  • Schedule verification. We plan the required construction-stage and final verification with qualified personnel and fit it to the construction sequence.
  • Organize closeout. We track open findings, required corrections and the documentation the certification review needs.

Our process

  1. Review the project and the outcome you want. We start from the building, the project type and the certification level the commitment calls for.
  2. Coordinate practices, milestones and verification. We connect the selected practices to construction milestones and schedule each verification stage.
  3. Resolve findings and support the final review. We work the open items to a close and support the final program review.

What you receive

A defined NGBS support scope, a verification schedule and organized project records that show which practice was verified, when and by whom. Certification is issued through the NGBS Green process; engaging a consultant never guarantees it, and we say so at the start.

Benefits

  • NGBS requirements connected to design choices, construction evidence and verifier review, in one record.
  • A clear view of outstanding items before certification submission, not after.
  • Financing and agency commitments tied to the work that will actually satisfy them.
  • Verification scheduled around the construction sequence, so the verifier sees each practice while it is still visible.

Why Green Summit

Green Summit combines building-science analysis, rating-provider quality processes and project coordination. Founded in 2014, we are a licensed engineering firm and RESNET Rating Provider No. 1998-221, and we define the qualifications and evidence the selected program requires rather than treating every credential as interchangeable. We coordinate the NGBS work and its verification; the certification decision belongs to the program.

Our role starts with the certification you want and the standard that applies, and it ends when the final program review has what it needs. In between, we keep the selected practices, the construction milestones and the verifier's schedule in one plan, and we build the record to be audit-ready from day one.

Frequently asked questions

What is NGBS Green certification?

NGBS Green is certification to the National Green Building Standard for new-construction and renovation projects. A project selects practices from the standard, documents them and has them verified at construction stages and at completion, and the certification is then issued through the NGBS Green process. Green Summit plans, coordinates and supports that work; we do not issue the certification.

Should we involve a verifier during design?

Yes. Early coordination lets the team plan the required practices, responsibilities and inspection stages before work is concealed, when a design change still costs less than a field correction.

Does ENERGY STAR replace NGBS?

No. The programs have different requirements. We can coordinate related work so the team collects evidence once where the rules allow, but each certification must be supported independently with its own evidence.

Can affordable housing projects use this service?

Yes. We coordinate the NGBS scope with the project's housing-agency or financing commitments, subject to the requirements those commitments carry, and we keep the certification timeline aligned with the agency's deadlines.

Can you coordinate NGBS with financing requirements?

Yes. We identify the certification commitment and its timing in the financing or housing documents, then connect that commitment to the design and verification work. Whether a lender or agency accepts the certification is that lender's or agency's own decision, confirmed independently of our work; we never assume it.

Can we combine NGBS with other certifications?

Overlapping evidence can support efficient coordination, but each program keeps its own requirements. We define the combined scope so that one certification is never assumed to stand in for another.
