HERS Ratings

Connect the home, the model and the field evidence in one rating you can stand behind.

A HERS Rating is only as good as the evidence beneath it. A projected rating reflects the planned inputs on the drawings; a confirmed rating requires field verification of what was actually installed and the completion process behind it. Green Summit supports HERS Ratings for qualifying residential projects through coordinated energy modeling, inspections, diagnostic testing and provider-controlled review, as RESNET Rating Provider No. 1998-221. We work with your project team to establish the required records and verification stages, then connect the final model to the field evidence so the rating represents the home that was built.

Who this is for

Developers and builders who need a rating that will hold up in a certification or code pathway, and HERS professionals who want modeling, verification and review to run as one coordinated process.

What we do

  • Plan the rating scope. We review the home or project, the purpose of the rating, the drawings and the program requirements that apply, so the right rating type is defined before anyone models a wall.
  • Develop the energy model. We document the building and system inputs and update them as the project evolves, so the model tracks the design instead of an early assumption.
  • Verify installed conditions. We coordinate the required inspections and diagnostic testing at the right construction stages, while the evidence is still visible.
  • Complete review and registration. We address findings, resolve discrepancies between model and field and submit the rating through the provider process that governs it.

Our process

  1. Review the plans, the rating purpose and the construction milestones. We identify which program, certification or code pathway the rating will feed and what it must therefore contain.
  2. Coordinate modeling, field observations and testing. Inspections and diagnostic tests are scheduled to the milestones, and the model is updated as the project changes.
  3. Resolve discrepancies and complete the rating. We reconcile the final model with the field evidence, close open items and complete the rating process for the selected type.

What you receive

The projected or confirmed rating work you engaged us for, with the supporting energy model and the inspection and test records behind it. The exact rating type, any program overlays and who delivers each piece are defined before the engagement begins, so nothing is assumed and nothing is missing at closeout.

Benefits

  • An energy-performance rating supported by model inputs and field evidence, not by a template.
  • A documented result that can feed the project's certification or compliance pathway without a second round of data collection.
  • One coordinated team for modeling, verification and review, so discrepancies surface while they can still be fixed.

Why Green Summit

Green Summit is a consulting partner delivering end-to-end compliance solutions in building performance. We combine building-science analysis, rating-provider quality processes and project coordination in one firm: a licensed engineering firm founded in 2014 that also holds RESNET Rating Provider No. 1998-221. We define the qualifications and evidence the selected program requires rather than treating every credential as interchangeable, and we build the rating record to be audit-ready from day one.

Frequently asked questions

What is a HERS Rating?

A HERS Rating is an energy-performance rating of a home produced under RESNET's Home Energy Rating System. A certified HERS Rater models the home's envelope, systems and orientation, verifies installed conditions through inspection and diagnostic testing, and submits the rating through a RESNET Rating Provider's review and registration process. The rating can then support the certification, code or incentive pathway the project has selected.

Is a projected rating the same as a confirmed rating?

No. A projected rating reflects planned inputs from the drawings and specifications. Confirmed rating work requires the field verification of installed conditions and the completion process that applies, so the two are different deliverables with different evidence behind them.

Does a HERS Rating guarantee certification or an incentive?

No. ENERGY STAR, other certifications, code pathways and incentive programs each carry additional requirements that we evaluate separately. We tell you what each pathway adds before you count on it.

Can one rating support multiple project objectives?

Potentially. We identify where a code pathway, a certification and an incentive overlap and plan the evidence once, while preserving each program's distinct requirements and documentation. The rating is the shared foundation; each program still gets the records it asks for.

What information is needed before rating a project?

Plans, envelope specifications, orientation, equipment information and the intended program or code use establish the starting point. Confirmed ratings also require the field evidence and the quality-assurance process that applies to the rating type.

How can ratings be made more consistent across projects?

Shared inputs, evidence standards, technical review and timely correction of discrepancies improve consistency. Provider oversight and builder-requested QA are distinct scopes, and we coordinate them rather than letting one silently stand in for the other.
