New Jersey Voluntary Energy Benchmarking Coordination

Use the benchmarking help that already exists to choose your next investigation.

New Jersey lists voluntary benchmarking separately from the mandatory Clean Energy Act reporting that covered buildings must complete, and choosing the wrong route wastes effort on both sides. Benchmarking shows you trends and outliers across a portfolio; it does not tell you why one building underperforms. Green Summit helps owners determine which route applies, organize comparable data and use the results to decide which building or system deserves a closer look. We are a licensed engineering firm and a consulting partner delivering end-to-end compliance solutions, and we start from the help the program already offers.

Who this page is for

Owners and managers of New Jersey buildings that fall outside mandatory reporting, or that want performance data beyond it, including portfolio operators deciding where the next audit or capital investment should go.

What we do

  • Determine the route. We review the property information and establish whether mandatory reporting or the voluntary route applies to each building.
  • Organize the data. We assemble the relevant records and flag gaps, missing periods and comparability concerns before anyone draws conclusions from them.
  • Connect findings to the next step. Where the results warrant it, we link them to energy audits, operations review and capital planning.

Our process

  1. Verify the program, the buildings and the parties. We check the program's current service and eligibility terms, each building's status and who is responsible for the data.
  2. Define the additional technical work. We identify what the program provides at no cost and define only the work that remains, so nothing is duplicated.
  3. Coordinate records, analysis and follow-up. We keep you and the program administrator working from the same records and carry the findings into the next decision.

Benefits

  • A clear answer on whether the mandatory or the voluntary route applies to each building.
  • A defined technical scope with accountable responsibilities.
  • Comparable records organized so the next investigation starts in the right building.

Why Green Summit

Green Summit combines building analysis, engineering coordination and field verification with a working understanding of what you want your portfolio to accomplish. Founded in 2014, we are a licensed engineering firm, and we build every record to be audit-ready from day one.

We are an independent consulting firm, not the state, not the utility and not automatically an approved program delivery contractor, and we will tell you when the program itself offers free help you should use first.

Frequently asked questions

What is voluntary energy benchmarking in New Jersey?

It is a program route through which owners who are not required to report, or who want more than the mandatory filing, can benchmark building energy use with program support. It sits apart from mandatory Clean Energy Act reporting, and the program's current service and eligibility rules govern what it offers.

Does voluntary benchmarking satisfy a mandatory filing?

Not automatically. Covered-building reporting has its own requirements and submission process, and we establish the correct route before any work begins.

What can we learn without an energy audit?

Benchmarking identifies trends and outliers, but it does not diagnose every cause. Its real value is helping you decide which building or system deserves a more detailed investigation.

Are Green Summit services separate from program assistance?

Yes. Any paid engagement carries a distinct scope and deliverable, and we never duplicate the no-cost assistance available through the official program.

What determines the Green Summit engagement?

The project's actual technical need, the roles the program permits and any professional qualifications the work requires. We identify deliverables and fees before work starts, and we never present funding approval as guaranteed.
