New Jersey Urban Heat Island Project Support

Turn community cooling priorities into a defined technical project with a clear scope, cost and evidence trail.

New Jersey's Urban Heat Island Mitigation Program addresses extreme-heat exposure through community cooling interventions. A heat-mitigation project is rarely one discipline: landscape, civil and public-health work sit alongside decisions about the buildings people shelter in, the energy those buildings use and how they perform when the grid is under strain. Green Summit supports the building-energy, resilience and technical-planning portions of an authorized project or a future funding-readiness effort, and leaves the other specialist roles to the specialists. We are a licensed engineering firm founded in 2014, independent of the program and its administrator.

Who this page is for

Communities and grant recipients pursuing heat-mitigation projects in New Jersey, the public and community organizations that lead them, and the facility owners whose buildings are part of the cooling strategy.

What we do

  • Find the building-energy questions. We identify the facilities and building-energy issues that sit inside the community's cooling priorities.
  • Evaluate the options. We assess the efficiency, resilience and distributed-energy measures relevant to those facilities.
  • Define the technical package. We help set the technical deliverables, costs, evidence and partner responsibilities so the project can be procured and delivered.

Our process

  1. Confirm the official program. We establish the project's status with the program and who is responsible for each part of it.
  2. Define the additional technical work. We identify what the project needs beyond what the program already funds, and we never duplicate a program-funded service.
  3. Coordinate the records. We deliver the analysis, records and follow-up to the owner and the program administrator.

What you receive

A defined building-energy and resilience scope for the project, with deliverables, cost assumptions, the evidence each deliverable will produce and a clear division of responsibility among the project's partners.

Benefits

  • A clear program route and an honest reading of where the round stands.
  • A defined technical scope with accountable responsibilities among the project's partners.
  • Records organized for the next decision, whether that is procurement, delivery or a future application.

Why Green Summit

Green Summit combines building analysis, engineering coordination and field verification with an understanding of the owner's project objectives. Founded in 2014, we are a licensed engineering firm, and the records we deliver are built to be audit-ready from day one, which matters when a grant funds the work.

We are an independent consulting firm, not the program administrator, and we will tell you when the program itself offers free help you should use first. We also say plainly which parts of a heat-mitigation project are ours to deliver and which belong to other specialists.

Frequently asked questions

What is the New Jersey Urban Heat Island Mitigation Program?

It is a state program that addresses extreme-heat exposure through community cooling interventions. The state funds projects by grant, and the recipient delivers an awarded project under the grant terms and its own procurement process. Applications were closed when we reviewed the program.

Is a new grant application open now?

The official page showed applications closed when we reviewed it on September 22, 2026. This page does not solicit applications for a new open round; check the program directly for any change.

Does Green Summit design every landscape or public-space intervention?

No. Landscape, civil, public-health and other specialist roles are assigned separately. Our role is the building-energy and technical scope we are qualified to deliver, and we say so at the outset.

Can you support an awarded project?

Yes, where the grant terms, the recipient and the procurement process authorize a defined technical engagement. The award itself does not appoint Green Summit; the recipient's procurement does.

What determines the Green Summit engagement?

The project's actual technical need, the program's permitted roles and any professional qualifications the program requires. We identify deliverables and fees before work starts; funding approval is not guaranteed.

How current is the information on this page?

Program information was reviewed on September 22, 2026. Confirm current availability, deadlines, approved providers and requirements with the official program before committing to work.

Let's talk about the buildings inside your cooling strategy.

Tell us the community, where the project stands (awarded, in delivery or preparing for a future round) and the facilities involved.
