New Jersey CHP & Fuel Cell Incentive Advisory

Evaluate the operating case before you rely on the incentive.

New Jersey's CHP and Fuel Cell program offers incentives for qualifying installations. An incentive lowers the cost of the equipment; it does not change whether the equipment makes sense, and for combined heat and power that turns on one question: how much of the recovered heat the facility can actually use, hour by hour, across the year. Green Summit helps owners review the building-energy and financial assumptions, coordinate specialist input and organize a defined technical support package. We are a licensed engineering firm founded in 2014, independent of the program, the equipment suppliers and the installers.

Who this page is for

Owners and operators of New Jersey facilities with steady electric and thermal loads who are weighing a CHP or fuel cell installation, and the facility and finance teams who evaluate it.

What we do

  • Review the loads. We review electric and useful-thermal loads, operating hours and the facility's objectives.
  • Coordinate the specialists. We coordinate technology-specific analysis, utility questions and the specialist design roles the project needs.
  • Test the incentive assumptions. We evaluate incentive assumptions alongside fuel costs, emissions, maintenance and verification needs.

Our process

  1. Confirm the official program. We establish the project's status with the program, the requirements and funds in force, and who is responsible for each part.
  2. Define the additional technical work. We identify what the project needs beyond what the program already funds, and we never duplicate a program-funded service.
  3. Coordinate the records. We deliver the analysis, records and follow-up to the owner and the program administrator.

What you receive

A documented review of the facility's electric and useful-thermal loads, an operating case that treats the incentive as one input beside fuel, emissions and maintenance, and a defined technical support package with the specialist roles named.

Benefits

  • A clear program route, with the incentive's real conditions stated rather than assumed.
  • A defined technical scope with accountable responsibilities among advisors, specialist engineers, suppliers and installers.
  • Records organized for the next decision, whether that is registration, procurement or verification.

Why Green Summit

Green Summit combines building analysis, engineering coordination and field verification with an understanding of the owner's project objectives. Founded in 2014, we are a licensed engineering firm, and our analysis is engineered substantiation, not estimates, with documentation built to be audit-ready from day one.

We are an independent consulting firm, not the program administrator, and we will tell you when the program itself offers free help you should use first. We sell no equipment and install none, so our reading of the operating case owes nothing to the sale.

Frequently asked questions

What is the New Jersey CHP and Fuel Cell program?

It is a state program that offers incentives for qualifying combined heat and power and fuel cell installations. Projects register with the program, and whether an incentive applies depends on the requirements and funds in force at the time. Program eligibility is a separate question from whether the installation is a sound investment.

Does an incentive make every CHP project economical?

No. The operating load, useful heat recovery, tariffs, fuel cost, maintenance and capital requirements decide that. Program eligibility is separate from investment suitability, and we evaluate both.

Is CHP automatically a decarbonization measure?

No. Emissions depend on the fuel, the efficiency, how the heat is used and the comparison case. We evaluate those assumptions rather than describe every combustion-based system as zero carbon.

Does Green Summit supply the equipment?

No. This page describes advisory and coordination support. Equipment supply, specialist engineering, installation and warranties are assigned separately in the project agreements.

What determines the Green Summit engagement?

The project's actual technical need, the program's permitted roles and any professional qualifications the program requires. We identify deliverables and fees before work starts; funding approval is not guaranteed.

How current is the information on this page?

Program information was reviewed on September 22, 2026. Confirm current availability, deadlines, approved providers and requirements with the official program before committing to work.

Let's talk about whether CHP fits your facility.

Tell us the facility, its location, its operating hours and thermal uses, and where the project stands with the program.
